Conditions: Trail in good shape. Brook crossings easy. Water for dogs is limited at upper elevations, though there are a few seeps between 3,000 and 4,000 feet (no water above 4,000'). Congenial mix of hikers along the trail and at the summit.

Special equipment: LOTS of water when the weather is this hot.

Note: The weather was hot and very humid on the day I hiked, and the air quality was noticeably bad. A real challenge for those of us with asthma and other lung issues. Even people without specific problems mentioned some difficulty breathing.
