Route: 19 Mile Brook Trail. Carter Dome Tr to Zeta Pass. Carter Moriah Tr to S. Carter and back, over Mt Hight, to Carter Dome and back to Black Angel Trail. Black Angel to Basin Trail to Basin Pond where we'd spotted a car.

Trail Conditions: some snow at higher elevations, but trail was broken for the most part. Black Angel was unbroken and there are some old and new blowdowns, none too difficult. Blazes are not frequent on Black Angel. We had no trouble crossing the Wild River at the former site of the Spider Bridge.

Equipment: microspikes.

Comments: Route 113 is now ungated over Evans Notch. Trillium are up (but not open) on the Basin Trail. We heard numerous wrens singing along the way, and heard some partridges drumming. Lots of moose "sign" on Black Angel Trail. The black flies were out at Basin Pond, as we cooled our tired toes after a long day on the trail.
