Few days ago I received a PM. I opened it, but didn't have time to respond.
A day or two later I logged into this site again and the PM was gone. Poof.
I didn't delete it when I read it. It just went away. Did someone borrow it?

The moderators never look at PMs. While it is possible to access them since admins have access to the database, I don't think there's even a way to see or delete them via the admin user interface.
Is it possible that this was a visitor message rather than a private message?

There is no function in vBulletin to facilitate the reading of private messages by moderators or administrators. vBulletin firmly sides with the "users" on this. If someone is personally harassing you via private messages, then please forward the offending messages to one of us (vBulletin's standard answer.) As Dave points out, everything is stored in a database, and thus if one knew how, one could poke around the database.

David / Tim,
Just to clarify...I wasn't implying in any way that something fishy happened.
I thought maybe it possibly got wiped out when the PM count got upped from
50 to 100, or maybe some glitch in the software that only pops up periodically.
That's all.
Thanks for the info.
