Northeners:

Not that you'll need much coaxing (ahem), but can you post your snow levels as the long weekend commences and goes on? We flatlanders have a hard time getting an accurate (eye-witness) read on how much snow there really is vis a vis should we bring snowshoes etc. With a four-day weekend for many, and with this storm "barreling through" as the weathermen like to say, I can imagine things will look a lot diff up there than down here (Cambridge MA) where it's 62 and supposed to pour all day.

Thank you!

The best place to check for snow conditions on the trails in New England Trail Conditions, here:

I've found the conditions this year highly variable. For example, yesterday I did Liberty, and there was snow top to bottom, with a heavy coating of ice underneath. Since the snowfall was new, and not bonded to the ice, it was very slippery. The very cold weather over the weekend had created ice bridges over the large brook crossing, which we used. However, all of that is probably changing today.

Two weeks ago there as 3-6" along the Hancock ridge with 4 degrees Fahrenheit, but a few days later - all melted.

Again, check NE Trails. It aggregates trail conditions reports from around the area, including this bulletin board.

Did you mean http://trailsnh.com/ ? It aggregates from here and newenglandtrailconditions.com and others.

Note that on the forums page it includes the map of conditions from only VFTT as I don't have permission to aggregate from other sites.

Still raining up north and temps are dropping at 4:20PM. Whatever sand and salt they laid down is probably washed off road surfaces, I expect the road up north will be skating rinks for some period of time tonight and Thursday things will be soggy.

Reporting from Madison, NH.

7:10 pm rain at the moment. Trace amounts of snow still present for now.

No. See my first post. I thought NE Trails Conditions aggregates, but perhaps it doesn't. Trails NH is a fine bit of work, but it's too feature-rich in practice for me.

Thanks all, very helpful. I'll check back here of course to see where people hiked today and tomorrow and what the on-the-ground condix are.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am ever THANKful for this message board to get the best insights!

... Trails NH is a fine bit of work, but it's too feature-rich in practice for me.

I redesigned the TrailsNH map a while back to be simpler to use. Hopefully it helps you narrow in on the trip reports you are looking for. The basic steps go something like this:

  1. Enter your destination in the search box (on the home page, or the map page, or on the URL if you use a Google Chrome browser)
  2. Your destination will be circled on the map
  3. Trip reports from the area in view are listed in the box on the left.
  4. Zoom in to narrow your search, zoom out to expand it to neighboring peaks.

If you prefer a listing of recent trip reports (instead of a map) choose "Lists & Peaks" off the menu bar to see the list you are working on:

Thanks for posting that, and for your efforts maintaining your website. Will definitely give it another look.
