Set off in fair amount of new snow this morning. No evidence of hiker tracks but one could make out a faint depression on the trail where previous hikers had trod prior to latest snowfall. No problems with water crossings but steep climb following last crossing was challenging with deep new snow. An axe would have been more helpful than poles. Slow going to the ponds, which had large drifts on the east bank. At Norcross Pond outlet, set off on bushwhack following well defined herd path which soon paralleled the slide before fading away. Route became spruce city- thick spruce, deep snow and lots of blowdowns. One of the spruces stole my water bottle in its red jacket- never found the culprit. Quite the contest to get up but finally reached the summit sign (no sign of canister) and enjoyed jaw dropping views, particularly of Stairs Mt. and Col. Good call wearing goggles for eye protection. Last mile and a half of descent returning to trailhead was "well plowed" as a few people had snowshoed up a distance.
