A reminder or warning that the Inferno event is occurring at Tuckermans this Saturday. Its a major party and a zoo. Definitely not the day to be hiking on the east side of Washington unless you are willing to go with the flow. The parking lots on both sides of RT 16 south of Pinkham appear to plowed out although the lot on east side of the highway needs a lot of melting and drying out. Best option is park at Wildcat walk up RT16 and take the snowcat shortcut.

I might actually do the opposite and go check it out. Never been up there. What time do you recommend we get to pinkham to at least get a parking spot within a 1/4 or 1/2 mile?

Just head down to Wildcat and park there. If the state wants to pay off winter rescues all they have to do start writing tickets on Saturday as there are no spots along Rt 16 that are melted back to allow parking off the pavement and most folks think that parking to the right of the white line is good enough. Taking the Snowcat shortcut from the Upper parking lot skips the mob at the PNVC but within a few minutes, you and a couple thousand others will all be walking up the trail.

what is the snowcat shortcut? easy to spot?

When you're walking south from Wildcat, watch for the north end of the Pinkham parking lot. Climb over the bank and look for a garage capable of concealing the snow rangers' tracked dragon. Follow the dragon's tracks upward to the trail. You'll know you've arrived at the trail when you start cursing the mob for not letting you into line ...
