Started at the Berlin Fish Hatchery. Monorail firm but soft sloppy snow w numerous postholes lining the trail. We wore yaks and microspikes for 3.0 miles until we reached the Kilkenney Trail. Put on our snowshoes for the hike up. Much less postholing w the snowshoes. Trail firmed up as we reached nearer to the cabin and Mt Cabot. Sleet, rain and snow halted as we ascended and the sky opened up for beautiful and unexpected views. Wore snowshoes all the way back to the trailhead and were able to run the majority of trail, we fell numerous times if we slipped off the monorail but all part of the fun. Glad we had snowshoes today, spring snow conditions unpredictable as the sun begins to show signs of earth for 1st time since December. We saw a big difference in viewable earth from the time we left to when we returned.
