trails: road walk

conditions: we parked on the east side of 142 a mile south of it's junction of 302 in bethlehem. there is a good shoulder just before the road/driveway leading to the summit. it doesn't feel like it should be a "trailhead", but it is and initially passes some boarded up buildings and various motorized vehicles/equipment. for good info and history i suggest checking out http://1happyhiker.blogspot.com/2012/06/hiking-to-mt-agassiz-old-fashioned-way.html. a short distance up the road there is an open gate and a sign welcoming responsible foot traffic. the road was wet, but snow free down low then had a coating of snow higher up.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: after a shorter than expected morning hike we decided to check out agassiz as it looked like things might clear off. unfortunately it didn't clear enough to get what would have been fantastic southern views though we did get limited looks to franconia notch, nearby cleveland and over to the northern twin range where we had hiked earlier. i will definitely be returning on a nice day for the full views. very interesting house on the summit in the way it tied in with the old observation tower and very gracious of the owner to allow access as they do. thanks to cynthia for a nice walk.
