Trails: Hancock Notch Trail; Sawyer River Trail

Trail Conditions: The trails were a mix of beautiful dry woodland trails, to slight mud, to walking down the middle of the brook bed rock hopping over the water. The trail east of the HOL was more rugged and wet than the west of the HOL.

Special Equipment Required: I was glad to have poles today to help me with all of the water crossings... of which there were MANY!! (all rock hoppable)

Comments: Hiking through Hancock Notch had been on my wish list for some time. I enjoy following the old logging RR beds, etc. There were partial views of the backside of the Huntingtons, including a descent view of its East peak. About 1.4 mi. from the junction with the Sawyer River Trail, erosion from Hurricane Irene was impressive and huge!

Thanks to my husband, Steve, for setting up the shuttle and walking in halfway with "Skipper," so that I could red line this trail.
