Admittedly I hike just as an excuse to clear trails these days. This trip to the Sawyer Pond trail was no exception. Plus I need to get ready for the Dry River trail. Maybe it was the construction but I only saw a group of three people on the trail this day

Passing through the Kanc construction, I made it to the trailhead and a nice cold crossing of the swift.

Trail is lined with lovely meadowsweet right at the start.

I saw this on a recent trip report up to Mt. Tremont. I cleared out two of these pines of similar size - maybe 2 ft. These were tough to get through even though they are pine - lots of knots. The root ball rose back up after the tree was cleared (as you can see in the last picture).

Was followed by a group of ravens for part of the trip. Very curious fellows .

All and all, I cleared 15 from the trail. A USFS crew will be coming around soon to remove some larger chainsaw-worthy step overs. This is probably of minimal interest for folks but thought I'd share. thanks for looking.

I have many many axes so have the liberty of choosing a different one most days. I prefer single bits over doubles but for no particular reason. Lately I've been using a Plumb axe in the Connecticut pattern - similar to the ones shown below.

:)thanx for the great trail work!! are there plans to clear and reopen dry river's trails closed sections?

I believe that is the plan. I don't work for the forest service but I am an active volunteer. Someone posted the decision and plan in another thread I think.

During our Kanc Redlining Mop-up Tour today, we got to witness the ax work on Sawyer Pond Trail up close and personal. THANK YOU Cooperhill for the awesome work !!

:)

Meadowsweet is one of my favorite flowers. I don't think I've ever seen a pink one, though.
