Lincoln Woods has plenty of parking.
Good dog trail- Lots of water.
Just a few mosquitos.
Posts of the Black Pond Bushwhack and Lincoln Brook Trail up to Owl's Head have been described often. Nothing new to report except the second crossing was right on edge for rock hop vs. wade. We waded.
Owl's head same as always.
North of Owl's Head is the primary reason for report.
We decided to do a modified "Inner Pemi Loop" to go to 13 Falls campground. Lincoln Brook Trail, north of Owl's head is a little used trail. We started north from OH and very quickly lost the trail. After some wandering down near the river, then back up to higher ground we found it. After finding it we were able to easily follow it the rest of the way up to the height of land and down to 13 Falls. The trail is very rocky, rooty, muddy, and wet. We did not take a normal stride for most of the way in this 3.5 miles. The crossing of Lincoln Brook and Franconia Brook were rock hops. (We spoke to a family on OH that had come from 13 Falls that AM and Franconia Brook had been above rock hop level, so stream flow can change quickly). This is a beautiful, secluded area and we really enjoyed it but expect to be wet and muddy. We stayed over and hiked out Franconia Brook Trail today. Twin Brook was a rock hop with wet feet, Redrock Brook, Franconia Brook, Hellgate Brook, and the tributaries were all rock hops (some had logs to cross). All could change quickly as we were just above the water. Easy walk out after a rugged day one. Great trip.
