trails: davis path, bushwhack, unofficial trail

conditons: we started up davis path keeping an eye out for the unofficial trail to hope that we expected to see on the right in the first quarter mile or so. though in hindsight the start is fairly obvious, about 200 yards past the wilderness boundary where an old road climbs up steeply to the right, we missed it and ended up bushwhacking a higher contour until we crossed it. in places down low the footbed was vague, but markings remain. the footbed was much clearer up high. be advised that around 1400-1500 feet there is a nest of yellow jackets under a log along the path. one of our party took the brunt of that encounter. easy enough to give a wide clearance on the way down. we checked out a handful of high bumps and concluded the highest point is where the trail ends at some nice semi open ledges. the sometimes notable water crossing on davis path was dry. one smaller brook up high that wasn't a problem.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: nice to finally get up this peak i had in mind for a while. thanks to zach and kevin for their recent postings about the unofficial trail. i had alway planned to bushwhack up. some good directional views from the summit ledges particularly west/northwest.
