trails: thorn mountain trail
conditions: the trail starts a short distance up a private driveway on thorn hill road in jackson and is marked with a small sign (start is adjacent to a transformer box). unfortunately the street number escapes me. the trail is shown pretty accurately on the usgs map which is what we used to locate it. parking is available this time of year at a snowplow turnaround a short distance up the road. the trail was in nice shape and mostly dry. pretty well marked with red blazes. some interesting ski area remnants and current communications equipment, including an mwobs camera, at the summit.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: real nice summit. views were fantastic from the summit area and on some ledges the trail crosses just below. a short, but sporting grind up the trail. was a little hot by early afternoon. thanks to amy and jeremy for a couple nice hikes today.
