This was the 4th hike on our vacation and it took us to Cambridge Black in Cambridge, NH. This mountain is a 2 for 1 mountain. The reason the count went from 92 to 93 is because Hiker Ed found artifacts on peak 2 and peak 4. Peak 2 is the known peak for the tower, but it was rebuilt once and it is believed that it was moved to peak 4 as that peak is the highest point in the Township of Cambridge. These peaks are #79 and 80 for us on the NH Fire Tower list of the 93 towers that are standing, once stood or were proposed.
We had scouted this area out on our last vacation and then with the help of Google Earth found the best approach to bag this mountain. We came in off of Black Jack road on the NE side of the range. This mountain has really been logged a lot. We found a cut that went straight up almost to the summit. Took us no time to get to the summit of peak 2. There are a lot of artifacts that remain on that peak.
We continued on following the range towards peak 3, went up and over it then on to peak 4. Most of the hike over went well, there were a couple of dense areas, but nothing compared to some of the other hikes we had made already this week. When we got to the summit of peak 4, we searched and searched knowing there were artifacts. We got to a high point that had an "X" on the tree, just like on Mount Dustan and that's where we found the artifacts.
We descended the mountain by heading to the east side of the mountain range and started skirting down the side until we hit a logging area. Again Google Earth was our friend on this one, we knew if we kept going we would hit an open area taking us back to the road and walked back to the vehicleAs usual we did post a video to YouTube for anyone interested in seeing the hike we did...
