Noticed that LL Bean sells a filter replacement for the Katadyn Hiker Pro water filter which is like $6ish dollars cheaper than the actual Katadyn brand replacement. Has anybody tried the LL Bean one before? It looks like the Katadyn one has a sponge thing and some siicon lube, neither which I really need.

They are the same cartridge.

However, may I suggest looking into a Sawyer Mini filter. Costs $25 and weighs only 2oz. I liked the old reliable Katadyn (previously the PUR) but the Sawyer is so much smaller & lighter (not to mention half the cost of a replacement cartridge)

The Sawyer Squeeze is slightly bigger and faster but weighs 3oz

I use a 3L Platypus bag with a string attatched to use the Sawyer to gravity feed. I love not having to pump anymore!!
