Interested in doing this traverse and have done some research. I have question regarding the distance to travel from the trailhead to Mt. Major and to Gunstock to spot a car. It appears from Mapquest that this may be approx 7 miles....does this seem correct?
 
7.5 miles with my mapping program. The road climbs 737 feet and descends 1018 feet so its not a coast downhill on a bike.

I did this range trail this summer. It was a hot day but in general it was lot longer of a hike than I expected. The signage is good but definitely download the new map as there are a lot of trail intersections to get confuse at but the new signs really help.
