The trail is solidly covered with snow for the first third, then a mix of snow and large rocks for the rest of the way to the summit. Various members of our party used bare boots, microspikes, and snow shoes, each with their pros and cons. The loose powder and steepness of the trail made snowshoes with heal lifters the footwear of choice, but they became a bit troublesome near the top on the large, exposed rocks. For those without snow shoes, care had to be taken in this section to avoid stepping into deep, hidden holes between the rocks.

The views from the ledge above the cliff were spectacular with bluebird skies and white frosted trees. The tram station was not open today, and there were very few hikers on the mountain.
