Mt. Avalon via Avalon Trail

Working on 52WAV had to go tag Avalon which I had been past twice but never ascended. Also served as an intro to winter hiking for a friend. Wore microspikes from beginning to end. Light snow over a slushy base at bottom, snow gradually increased with elevation. Stream crossings easy. Great views--only Mt. Washington in the clouds. Had a great view of the Pressies in the setting sun on the way home. My friend started calculating distances to other Carter Notch peaks on the way home. I think he's hooked.
