Date of hike: Mon 2/16/2015

Trail conditions: Well-packed snowshoe trail. 12-18" snow off trail, a little crusty at bottom but pure powder up top.

Special equipment required: Snowshoes a really good idea, although one can physically make it barebooting.

Comments: No ice whatsoever on the trail. I would say that in general, in the Harriman/Bear Mountain/Hudson Highlands region you should assume you will face snowshoe conditions. (If you are coming up from the NYC area, it is not readily apparent from what you see at home that there will be deep enough snow up north to need the snowshoes). Most hikers seem to be bare-booting however, not sure how many hikers even have or bring snowshoes.
