Date of Hike: 4/30/15
Trails: Liberty Springs Trail, Franconia Ridge Trail
Conditions: The very start of the Liberty Springs Trail (at the Franconia Notch bike path) is bare but the becomes steadily deeper the higher you go. I added microspikes when the monorail became consistent about 2 miles up, then switched to snowshoes at the junction Liberty Springs tentsite. The climb to the summit of Mt Liberty is blown free of snow, so I went with bare boots for the last 500 yards. It was warm and calm enough for just a down vest.
Special Equipment: I saw people rebooting, and plenty of post holes. I was happy to have microspikes for the lower trails (the icy monorail) and snowshoes on the upper trail.
Comments: Only one tent platform was cleared. The others have at least a foot of packed snow. The spring is buried, but there's plenty of snow to melt.
