I know it was lost the same day, because the Mizpah Spring Hut caretaker told me that a man had stopped in asking about it. She said I arrived about 30-45 minutes after he left. But I had spent some time eating my lunch before going inside to ask about it, so I may have encountered the person who lost it as I was arriving at the hut.
If you were the person who stepped aside to let me pass, I had it dangling from my walking stick. I didn’t mention it to you because I figured the person who lost it would be heading the other way, toward Pierce. But as I sat and ate, I could see someone moving back and forth through the trees, so maybe you or someone else was searching for it.
