The large snow formation on the wall of Kings Ravine On Mt Adams is back for its annual appearance. Compared to recent years, its took quite awhile for the enough snow to melt for the outlines to appear . This formation is located in the drainage that forms Great Gully trail. It generally is the last snow field that remain visible from the base of the Northern Presidentials from the north every year. Although quite obvious it doesnt seem to get the attention of tourists but most locals know about it as its is visible from the Berlin Gorham Road (RT 16). Some older residents have told me that they wont plant their tomatoes until the seven is gone. Considering that Berlin has two nights last week below freezing, it may not be a bad idea.

I expect a lot of folks are going to be surprised this upcoming holiday weekend on the snow pack still visible on the mountain. All the ravines still have quite a bit of snow.

There was a goodly contingent of skiers up the auto road yesterday, and it is expected that excellent conditions will persist for a while. Nice to see lots of folks out and getting after it while it lasts !

It's cool that you have a "7" in NH. We have a wonderful "7" in the Adirondacks, on Cascade Mountain, courtesy of Hurricane Irene. It's dramatically visible as you drive south from Lake Placid, all winter.

The seven is succumbing from the hot and humid weather. As of 5/29 The vertical snow field in great gully is still there but the snow field to the left that forms the horizontal part of the seven is just about gone. It would take a bit of imagination to pick it out.

Is it now 'The Forward Slash'? That's 'uphill slash' in simple terms.

Its that time of year, the "Seven" snow formation is getting well defined in Kings Ravine. There are still a couple of snow fields to the west that usually shrink to make it stand out. Its usually the last patch to go on the north side of Adams.

Two days ago the "7" was really good, but was unable to go...here's a pic from Mt. Forist in Berlin, NH...Mt. Forist 5-18-18 008.jpg
