No headlamps for a 3pm departure of the Percy Loop. A reasonable person could say this was negligence.

It's not a fine. They were billed for the cost incurred in their rescue - fee for service, not punitive action.

Reading the other stories - a guy has a twisted ankle at Lakes of the Clouds, and his car is at the Cog. So the responders splint his ankle, hike him UP to the summit, (which is of course ABOVE tree line!), and then drive him down the road, and all the way around to his car!

Ok, the responder's vehicle was at the summit, but really?

Down 3 miles and change and 2800 feet or up a mile and and change with1200 gain and a warm car ride with a banged up ankle I'm sure I'd take the less mileage personally.

That 1.4 mile stretch up the Crawford Path is much easier than the 2.4 miles or so down Ammo to the Cog, moreso at night. Only in hard winter conditions would down from there make more sense than up, it would seem.
