I expect this is part of the long list of sales coming up. The market for softwood in much of maine has collapsed due to the loss of much of the paper industry and the strong US dollar which makes US lumber expensive relative to Canadian. The spruce budworm is also in the background and could reduce the value of what is standing. This area is west of Baxter and not near the proposed MWNP. Reportedly many owners have just stopped cutting softwood hoping the markets come back.
It will be interesting who the buyer ultimately is. Maybe John Mallone will continue his purchase of the maine woods?
