Conditions: Snow, lots of it!!

Special equipment needed: Stabilizers and poles helpful, gaiters too.

Imagine our surprise, snow on the road up to the unopened gate, about 4 or 5 inches down low where we parked, more up high, 1-2 feet. After barely any snow in the Adirondacks last month, we were expecting some frozen mud and rocks. It was a bit rough going up with all the new, heavy snow. Going down was a breeze. As the day went on, with more traffic, the path became more compacted, lower down. Most of the snow on the road was melted by the time we left. Some rocks showing during the 1st half of the trail, not many rocks exposed for the second half. No mud (that will come).

Absolutely stunning winter day out! All the trees were draped in thick carpets of snow. Barely any wind. We had the summit to ourselves. Skiers could be seen on Stowe, and amazing views all around.
