3 Carters "T" via 19 Mile Brook, Carter Dome Trail, Carter Moriah Trails 5/6/2016
"T" route - to ridge via 19MB, CDT; from Zeta, south to Carter Dome and back; then N to Middle Carter and back.
Trail Conditions: Ice line is around 3800 feet, just below Zeta Pass. Still 100% ice between Zeta and Carter Dome (bypassing Hight). 10% ice between Zeta and Middle Carter, but that 10% is in the steepest, most critical spots. Some mud, but the trails all in great shape.
Special Equipment Required: MicroSpikes
Comments: Forecast changed almost at the last minute - a beautiful partly sunny day, temps in the 50s, zero winds. No biting bugs yet. A few more days of sustained above freezing temps should pretty much finish off the ice. It was soft/grippable for us, but will be nasty again if temps drop. Alas, no sign of the spruce grouse -- perhaps the victim of a flock of hawks we observed circling and hunting over South and Middle.
