Drove Sandwich Notch Rd to Guinea Pond trailhead in a low-clearance Mazda 3. White-knuckle ride ... difficult maneuvers around massive bulges of decaying asphalt on the steep sections. Road-walked to Algonquin trailhead. Algonquin trail to summit then back to Black Mountain Pond trail. There are several blowdowns that appear to have been there a while: herd-path walkarounds. Difficult descent down the steep, wet cliffs of upper Black Mountain Pond trail ... I should have done the loop in the opposite direction. Nice trail from the pond to Guinea Pond Trail, but Guinea Pond Trail is now flooded even beyond the existing reroutes. The "water gaps" are 3-4 feet across and a foot deep; I managed a partially-successful leap using some
thin branches left by others and only soaked the outside of my boots.

No ice on these trails. No bugs above 3000 feet but at lower elevations the black flies were really bad ... head-net conditions (wish I'd thought to bring mine!).
