fort mountain, north brother. hiked on 6 30 16

Overall, the trail was in good shape, with some nice rock work done for stairs and some bog bridges. Also some recent sapling trimming has been done up to 3400 ft. No problems on any stream crossings. Two steeper sections on the marston trail starting at 1500 ft, also just the section just after the pond had good footing. The trail from 3400 ft up to north brother was a bit rougher, steeper and wetter. The wack/herd path to fort was no problem, just slow going and wet due to the recent rains and mist conditions. The wet low vegetation made for some wet pants and shoes. No problem with bugs except at the marston trailhead where the black flies were waiting on high alert. Found lots of flagging between fort and north brother. We removed over 80 pieces. A friend told me not to underestimate the time going from north brother to fort and back. She was very correct. It may look like a quick mile on the topo map, but when you account for the low scrub fir and possible non cooperation of weather conditions, it will slow you up. A big thanks to all the previous post for this mountain. That gave some great insight and helped what to prepare for. Thanks also to Jeremy for meeting up and getting this one in together. Rt 10.8 miles, elevation gain about 3670 ft.
