Definitely would ruin your day if you fell there.
 
Go in the fall, after labor day and the crowds are almost tolerable, except for Cadillac. Not sure exactly what the draw is, other than you can drive to the top. I avoid that one hike in Acadia for that reason. So many other hikes that are better because of the lack of people. Precipice trail is fun, if you enjoyed ladder trail.
