Where in lies the inherent nature for someone to vandalize a pile of rocks? On another note the Bates Cairn is a really kool concept IMO. Also very appropriate for the terrain of Acadia. Gotta get me one of those t-shirts. Kudos to all the folks that perpetually maintain these trails and cairns.
