Donn Fendler, the subject of the classic " Lost on a Mountain in Maine " passed away yesterday. He was 90.

A compelling story that makes a good gift to a child aspiring to hike to far away places.

Donn Fendler, the subject of the classic " Lost on a Mountain in Maine " passed away yesterday. He was 90.

Good news story about Fendler's death in the Portland paper.

This story includes an amazing embedded period video of his rescue narrated by him.

He was due to speak at Kidney Pond in July, but never made it due to illness.

SIDEBAR: I was told by the ranger that he never made a dime off "Lost on a Mountain in Maine" because he signed away the rights to the story to the author. In later years he wrote his own illustrated book about his ordeal.
