Mt Pierce, Mt Jackson, and Mt Webster via Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Trail, and Webster-Jackson Trail

Date of Hike: 10/16/2016

Trail Conditions: At base, it was warm in the low 50's, no breeze, and overcast with occasional light drizzle. The trails alternated between very dry to a bit damp, and were covered in leaves. Crawford Path was very lightly travelled up to Mt Pierce. Hiked on Webster Cliff trail to Mizpah Springs hut, Mt Jackson, and then Mt Webster passing only one other group of hikers. Summits were in the high 40's with an occasional breeze, had no signs of rime, and Mt Washington's summit was hidden in the clouds. Went down via Webster-Jackson trail which had one blow down (a tree trunk across the trail that was easily stepped over) and we passed only one other group of hikers.

Special Equipment Required: Layers.

Comments: Great, easy fall hike with light foot traffic and pleasant weather. Mizpah Springs hut was closing down for the season, but the friendly staff gave us access to their water spigot and bathrooms. Gray jays pestered us while we were going up Crawford Path (a few tenths of a mile past the Mizpah Cutoff trail junction). More gray jays were seen at the Webster Summit and equally pesty. Toni was quite excited to see a black-backed woodpecker, we also saw a few groups of boreal chickadees, and some moose prints through the bog (between Mizpah and Jackson).
