The availability of cheap and reliable rides solves scheduling problems with car spotting. I was wondering if anyone has used the Uber App around popular hiking areas up north. Are there drivers/cars around?

I was just in North Conway and Franconia-- no cars were around. But it was winter and after 10pm.

I m not aware of any Uber activity in the area, but it does bring up the thorny issue of "outfitter guide permits" and how they apply to Uber drivers. In theory any commercial service that operates in a national forest has to apply for an obtain and outfitter guide permit. I expect it will be the case of the technology getting ahead of the regulations.
