I also follow the weather much more than I did in 8th grade along with Volcanic activity. https://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2016/05/26/year-without-a-summer-1816-mount-tambora/84855694/

I have heard of that - while the snow would be fun, it might be a net-negative if it happened again. :)
More recent smaller eruptions have also had noticeable effects--for instance, the eruption of Mt Pinatubo in 1991 caused a cooling of ~1 deg F in the northern hemisphere (~.7 deg F global) with effects lasting up to three years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Pinatubo#Global_environmental_effects

I was in Hawaii about a month after the eruption--the sunsets were spectacular (due to the airborne particulates). Didn't check the summit snowpack on Mauna Loa...

So was I! The sunset colors were spectacular. Eclipse?
Yep!
Watch out for the vog.... <ominous music plays in the background>

We slept out in a field* with a statistically good chance of clear skies (just NW of Mauna Kea) and got skunked by a bubble of cloud that lasted less than an hour. :(

* Totality was ~7am, IIRC.

Ironically, they saw it back at the hotel just S of Kona...

PS: Vog (volcanic fog) was the local name for the volcanic haze. It came with cooling and acid rain.
