According to Jensen Bissell's Update in the latest Friend's newsletter, the Park is placing the following limits on AT hikers.
1. All must acquire a permit (in person), good for a 7-day window, at Park Hq or KS campground.
2. Permit must be presented and stamped at KS campground before hike to summit.
3. Total of 3150 permits are available for 2017.
4. After 3150 permits are issued, Long Distance Hiking campsite closes and remaining AT hikers must access park following standard visitor protocols via Togue Gate.
These rules apply to Northbound, Southbound, Section and Flip-Flop hikers.
Permit are free.
