Does a cairn on the North Twin Trail mark the old Fire Wardens Trail up to Hale?

Not really. Technically when hiking along the North Twin Trail summer route, the North Twin Trail crosses the river to the west side while a very obvious unblazed trail heads stays on the East side of the river. This is also used in the winter to avoid two river crossings and is getting a lot of year round use in general. At some point the very obvious trail crosses a stream which is the drainage of the valley that fire wardens trail ascends. The trail then gets far less obvious and runs across a steep slope where footing in winter can be difficult. The alternative is follow the flood channel of the stream if the ice is solid. Once you get past the steep slope the trail flattens out. Once it flattens, immediately look to the left and up and you will see a sloped grade coming down put of the woods almost parallel to where you just came from . Just walk up the short slope and take a left and head north. The old road is bit grown in with softwoods for a short stretch and then open right up.

There was a small cairn at the junction for a while, but it was removed. It's currently marked by axe blazes cut into a few trees, which were carved last winter if I recall.

And this is why we can't have nice things.
