    Hiker Resue from Mt Madison

    I guess its still fall so therefore it must be fall conditions on the summits

    Drove by the southern end of Sebago Lake and the Presidential's looks stunning with the snow up high and the foliage below.

    Yes, really. You'd be amazed how many people are unprepared in shoulder seasons. Even in the dead of Winter for that matter...

    This reminds me, it's time for my annual question about sunrise!

    Met some SOBOs this past week on Roan Mountain (just under 6300 feet in elevation, on the NC/TN border) who were not quite prepared for the several inches of snow, as well as significant ice, that had accumulated on the mile or so of AT on the upper portion of the peak, in particular on the north-facing descent toward Hughes Gap. Told them about the Mt. Madison rescue a couple of weeks back, and they were happy to be past that section of trail.
