    Shoe Box Falls

Has anyone been to Shoe Box Falls on the N. Fork of the Bouguet River? I printed out directions from www.running-water.com and made the mistake of leaving the GPS at home. We followed fishermen's paths up the left side of the River about 20 minutes until we came to a point where the River made a sharp turn toward the NW and the path deteriorated on a steep slope and gave up.

For anyone in the know - Were we close? Is the hole swimmable in lower water? and Is it worth going back to try to find it? We ended up cooling off in the hole just up from the parking lot, which was nice, but crowded. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

    You were pretty close

I've been there once. If you had crossed the river right where you turned back, and continued up the other side, you probably would have gotten there in 5-10 minutes. (We went up and over that high bank, but took the low road on the way home.)

There really isn't much of a falls, but the little swimming hole is unique, and there is a nice watercourse over the rocks. It's worth the hike. Great place for kids of all ages.
