Trail Conditions
Bootable on Garfield Trail for about 3.5 miles. Some crust below 3 inches fluff below. Snowshoes recommended for last 1-1.5 miles to keep from postholing (above knee). Unconsolidated snow
Special Equipment Required
Floation (with traction) devices recommended for last 1.5 miles. First 1/2 mile of GT has ice with 1-2 inches of powder covering. Used MSR Denali's to keep from postholing. Crampons not required. MSR's used from summit to road on return trip. Stream crossings on Garfield Trail easy. Extreme wind on summit.

NOTE: all Bridges OUT (3 of them) on the south road from Rte 3! No signs posted @ road warning of bridge outs. Each bridge requires special route finding to cross the Scarface Brook (really a river)!! Plan for 1.5-2hrs time walk to trailhead from the south road.
Long winter day hike (10.5 hrs). Remnants of previous hiker on trail within past week. Trail is completely broken out.
