I wanted to share my experience with these. I have owned a pair of 30" Northern Lites Backcountry Elites for six years now. They have treated me extremely well. The bindings work fine. A few of the plastic clips that hold the decking to the frame have worn down and broken off, but this hasn't...
This website is thought to have the most definitive compilation of prominence-based climber rankings going: http://tinyurl.com/pot9mt7
If you don't see your name on there, feel free to email Andy Martin with corrections. He officially updates it every four months.

Does it matter how many hikers have completed the list? I'd guess 20 or so, but not because the list is especially difficult or due to the remoteness of peaks - mostly because it is a more recently-popularized concept that hasn't caught on as much yet due to driving distances and some of the...
I have experience with this route in both directions. There is a well-formed herdpath going from Carrigain notch up to Vose Spur. This route is practically a trail, and you'll find it easily enough on the way up. If you miss it on the way down, things would be less enjoyable for all parties. The...
I have been in to Corbin Park to hike Croydon twice. There is no way around the $50 fee. I know a number of other people that have hiked it, and almost everyone agrees that it is worth the fee. They will drive you from the park entrance to the high trailhead. If you want to traverse over...
Ah, thank you for re-clarifying. I was fairly certain that the NE ridge was posted as private property, but I didn't want to come out and accuse you of that here. I think I found a different bulldozed road than you did - maybe it is an extension of the Cronk Road development.
I see exactly...
If you have to go northeast off the summit to follow that ridge back to Rose's Brook Road, then wouldn't it be the northeast ridge??
Maybe you Catskills folks hold yer maps upside down or something.
5:19 is indeed the FKT for all of the Belknap Range listed peaks.
At least one group has still done it faster, but they chose not to publicize it - hence their time is classified as a "FUKT": Fastest Un-Known Time.
Keep up the good work, guys!
Could you explain this route again? I was just up in that area climbing Plattekill yesterday and I don't see where a southern ridge on Meeker Hollow Mtn leads to Rose's Brook or Rose Brook Rd.
I hiked Meeker Hollow about 10 days ago, and the prickers weren't that fun. I parked at the first...
Use a compass bearing of 254 degrees. (Just kidding.)
Actually, you're in for a challenging bushwhack. If you really want to get all three in one hike, you'd best put a car on the west side and descend via the notch between Savage and East Spruce. Not sure how you would get over to start on...
You really can't make assumptions on where the going will be easier based on what side of the mountain you are on. There are tons of factors that go into it, such as:
Previous logging activity
Ridge lines and gullies
Elevation
Exposure to prevailing winds
Animal herd paths
etc...
You would be...
Pierre, I'm very surprised that you haven't heard of John R. Person! John is one of the most accomplished hikers in recent memory in New England. He has listed the 1,000 highest mountains in New England and he finished his list just last year. He is quite a bushwhacker and spent an incredible...
Hi Jim,
I climbed Musquash Mtn a couple weks ago, and I just did a search here on VFTT to see if anyone agreed with my assessment. I saw your little back-and-forth with Roy, and I have to agree with Roy on this one. When I got there, I was skeptical about the summit, and visually it looked like...
