Finally...#48...and the perils of such a hike

Congrats Great job and a great place to finish. I was up on Moriah last week, and must have hit the same mud pit, which took my leg up to mid calf and would have kept going had I not been able to pull back out . Thankfully I was wearing my gaiters!

    An odd plan for 11/20

to spot a car at Crawford Station, pop over to Zealand Road to the Hale Brook Trail, over Hale to the Zealand Hut, then the A-Z to the Mt Tom Spur, down again and over to Field, then down the Avalon Trail to the spotted (spotted??) car. Thirteen miles or thereabouts, 7:30 a.m. meet up. Any takers?

A Letter to Santa - Pierce and Jackson 10-23

No, Donna. Not to beat a dead horse, but had my compatriot made our rendezvous at the originally apointed hour, and had we not spent precious minutes cramponing and de-cramponing (these are words?) we may have made it to Jackson by noon, but things being what they were, we arrived there at 2...

A Letter to Santa - Pierce and Jackson 10-23

It certainly was a fun day, Mike. And pictures or not, those views from Pierce will be in my mind forever. Glad I missed the snoring, though.

A Letter to Santa - Pierce and Jackson 10-23

Dear Santa, I know that the usual procedure is for a correspondent to your workshop to make an appeal on his own behalf for a Christmas gift, and also that the correspondent is usually between the ages of five and, say, eight, but I ran into a situation this past weekend that would benefit...

Thanks to all for your encouragement and support. I give up trying to upload photos. Here's a link to facebook pics: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=23686&id=100000936437574&l=1dd8fe20bd Hi, Sabrina. In addition to that Ossippee day, we hiked with you, Tera and (now) hubbie over a rain...

    Carrigain Success 10-17-2010

Thanks so much, Jabberwalk. I well remember that hike. You were curious about my lunch, because I used to bring a somewhat elaborate spread with me. That day it was home made chicken salad. I have since ditched that routine in favor of food that can be eaten on the move. Ah, experience! And...

    Carrigain Success 10-17-2010

Little did I suppose, struggling through a light mist of rain to ascend the lofty 1,380 foot summit of Maine’s Mount Megunticook in the late spring of 2007, that in October of 2010 I would stand similarly upon the summit of Mount Carrigain, having topped all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000 foot...

Amantio makes a second attempt to finish on Carrigain 10/16

Mushroom? Italian, Latin, what's the difference? All I know are funghi. Would certainly love to see you and yours on the trail. Taunting would only motivate me further.

Amantio makes a second attempt to finish on Carrigain 10/16

Blatant attempt to worm one's way into a hike Keep your plans intact for Franconia, Mike, but open your mind to the idea of allowing me to tag along. That will give you a full week to think up ways to provide me with material.

Amantio makes a second attempt to finish on Carrigain 10/16

Plans modified Given the deteriorating weather forecast for Saturday, we’ve made the executive decision to punt to Sunday. Boots on the trail at 6:00 a.m.?? Really??? Perhaps we'll see you on your way down :o. We will be shooting for an on trail time of 8, and will be at the trailhead...
