    Hiking with toe spacers?

Try the refill packs for those "swiffer sweepers" (or whatever they are called). Cut to fit as needed. The material is VERY slippery. I have used it in xc ski boots with good results.

Backpacking to fish light kayak/inflatable ?

Just thought I'd add my experience with both the Oru and inflatables. The oru is lighter than a quality inflatable, and definitely is quicker to prepare for launch. The oru beats an inflatable hands down for speed and general tracking, but both are VERY prone to windage. An experienced paddler...

And if you do decide to walk it, stay out of the ski tracks!:p

Longest you've driven for a hiking daytrip?

490 miles one way to Pinkham for a day hike to Jeff and Washington. Was supposed to be an overnite, but no campsites were available in Great Gulf so we just kept going... and going... and going... soaked our feet in a pool in Huntington Ravine (bliss)... showered at Joe Dodge... drove back home...

    nordic sking--anywhere?

Not New Hampshire, but the Catamount in southern VT is skiing very well, given the limited snow. There is a solid base of frozen rain-soaked snow with 4" or so of powder on top (at least as of Jan 25). You can actually ski off-trail where you would normally need 2' of cover.

Adventure Vacations Recommendations for 6 year olds

Blue Ridge Parkway. Amble as far as you like, stop by swimming holes, take short hikes. Avoid starting in Shenandoah. My kids still remember some of the swimming holes, and you will have far less crowding than a national park.

Long Trail and West River Trail

Ball Mtn was intended for flood control, and is normally drained down in winter / spring. They fill it in summer for recreation. I was there late one winter when the river was still iced up and they started to release water. It was eerie to see water rising over the ice!

    A few more ski questions

Ditto Dougpauls comments on waxing. Even though you may have a waxless ski, waxing it will significantly improve performance both uphill and down. While it may not have the adhesion of a ski designed to be waxed, its still worth the effort. And it looks cool to whip out a few tins and scrutinize...

    Backcountry xc-ski in n-east

Interestingly, I have gone the opposite way. Started w/3 pin, went to NNN for the simplicity, now back to pins for better control. So your take home here should be whatever you choose will work. If you haven't bought boots yet, I would start with finding a pair that are comfortable and durably...

    Hip Snap Exercises

Ditto. The hip snap is not a "strength" thing, more of a twitchy thing. Hows that for a description? Seriously, think yoga. Its all flow. And how you use your upper body.

    Grout Pond, VT in winter

I don't think it burned completely, but is definitely closed. I've never noticed the area getting that rowdy. Too far of a trek in, and most 'bilers dont camp out.
