I would love to have a small cabin in the woods. But the upkeep and maintenance is not that attractive to me. I see too many friends running up to their "vacation" homes to mow the lawn, stain the deck, take care of things.... at this point in my life I don't want another place with maintenance...

Thank you all for input! The crowds last weekend scared/intimidated/annoyed me, so I skipped the more popular Washington - Alpine Garden hike for Owls Head. Even that was crowded! I'd hate to see what Washington or the Franconia Notch hikes looked like. I'll try to get the Alpine Garden next...

When are the wild/alpine flowers in bloom on Washington? I'm headed to the Whites this weekend and if they're in bloom now that's my plan. If not, it'll be Owl's Head (depending on stream crossings), or something yet to be determined as my third option. Thanks, Amy

Marty - where is the Murray Canyon? is that within the Joshua Tree park?

I've always used Hot Hands, because that's the easiest to find. Never had a problem with them. For those that are always cold, they work great in a sleeping bag for a cozy nights sleep!
