Spencer, are you planning to complete the ADK100 in winter? I did Lost Pond in winter with Sonny back in the mid 1990s. Spectacular views around the pond area.
I haven't posted here for quite some time, but still get occasional email messages. I'm planning to attend Saturday. It's always a great time! Regarding Covid, I attended my 60th high school reunion in early August and a number of us got it. No worry, we're completely recovered now. Peakbagger...
Wow! The ADK 3000s are tough enough to do in ANY season, and many are incredibly hard to access. You may be the first to do these in winter .... with a lot of camping out, I'll bet.
Oncoman, I recall reading (ADK High Peaks forum) that you have completed all the NY 3000s .... in winter? Also, on a revisit of 11th Mtn with Sonny, we found burnt ashes on the summit from someone who apparently started a fire in the snow, perhaps to warm up. There was no burned spot on the...
Congratulations to"Oncoman", aka as Pierre Lefebvre from Quebec, who recently released the following: "I completed 770-777 list on Monadnock (VT) on 12 August 2019." He is the 11th known completer of this list.
Tom, your Shepherd's Tooth post brought back memories of the winter 1990 trip when Sonny, Dave, and I hiked right by this peak coming down from Iroquois and headed for Marshall. Sometime I think I'd like to go back and get this.
Just had to see your pics after that great write-up and .... adventure, Spencer! You're really getting to see just how hard some of these Adirondack mountains 'whack you'.
How I'd approach the 3365' peak today ....
Notice the dashed road that branches off the paved road (to town of Lyon Mountain). Click on MAP. In 3-season, presumed that road is gated, I'd bike it to the end, then bushwhack direct to the summit. Right now, I presume X-C skis would work quite...
Isn't it great doing some of the nastiest whacks on hard packed snow? I've heard McDonnel from Allen is a 'bear' 3-season (Sherby), but in a winter type setting, it's all about .... conditions! You hit it perfect, Neil. Besides the thick terrain, the real problem getting some difficult...
Sat. 5/23 Barkaboom Mt. (3100') & Cradle Rock Ridge (3160'): SonnyM and I arrived early afternoon in the Southwest Catskill Mountains area for a weekend of 100 highest peak bagging. We started off with an easy 500 ft. right angle bushwhack ascent of Barkaboom Mt. from Cross Mountain Road, then...
Here's Dick Boisvert on the snow slope "+" approaching Bonney Pass with side of Mt. Helen and North Titcomb Lake in background; Gannett (WY) high point trip.

Just received a Mount Rushmore post card from Dick: "This was only a highlight of my trip. The high points of my trip were MI, MN, ND and --#50--> IA. Finally !!!"
Ever since Sonny Martineau and I joined Dick in 1999 and had a successful trip getting the toughies Gannett (WY) and Granite (MT)...
