Well as an update we went with the Canon A520. I wanted to get the A610 but couldn't get my mom to spring for the extra ~$50. (this is a christmass present for me and my wife, but my mom knows nothing of cameras so she asked me to pick one out. it'll be a suprise for my wife :D ;) )
