This friday (after a snowstorm) may be a decent opportunity for a pleasant backcountry kick and glide day trip

Get out behind Beaver Brook Wayside and ski back to the trail to the Twins, bang a left and hit up the glades on the Fire Warden's. Go early.

Time to get rid of the NEHH

First - SO damned refreshing to see an intelligent conversation with regard to our beloved hills. Second - can't help but chuckle that the beast that created the hordes on the herds is the one in which this discussion is occurring (though I don't consider this - or any other true forum -...

Glacier National Park. And others out west.

Hi Joe. Cathie and I went out to Glacier this past summer. We were there in June. I noticed lots of places available on the western side. GTTS road was closed until our last 2 days there, but that was ok. We AIRBNB'd it, but around Kalispell and teeny tiny Martin City had places available. In...

    Pack Goats

A friend recently spent the night at the Perch. She told me of the horrible mess left by the goats somebody had brought in. She was told they (the goats) were being trained for hunting. ?? The owners/trainers took off for a day hike and left the animals behind. The next day after they departed...

New AMC Logo....a good or bad?

Having worked as a graphic artist for many many years, I agree with the majority that the new logo is not something I would (at a glance) associate with the Appalachian Mountain Club. And, way back when I did my work as a designer I was ever mindful that one must "get the message across" at 1st...

Tourists making a mess of national Parks

I would echo this. I was in Glacier at the shoulder of peak and saw very little trash. I generally pick trash up as I hike and I picked up a minimal amount while hiking - which we did each of the 7 days there. I pick up more on a short hike here than I did in all my hiking there. Full...

    Traditional maps/guidebooks obsolete?

Map and guidebook for me for hiking. I use (electronic) technology to check weather/radar and sometimes most recent trs (though most these days are not trs at all).

    Glacier National Park

Hey folks. I've another question. How do the trails compare to NH's 4Ks? Are they comparable to hiking in Yosemite and Tahoe areas? TIA

    Glacier National Park

Dave, thanks for the leads. I've packed my spikes and snowshoes. Haven't seen any reports of snow depths on trails - you said there may be too much snow. Too much, do you think, for snowshoes?

    Glacier National Park

Dave, we will be there end of June. GTTS Road is currently partially open from both sides, with the Logan Pass the closed section. From what I have researched and from others' kind responses and advice I'm pretty sure we can keep ourselves busy and keep the shutters clicking and feed the soul...

Latest Glacier NP intel, in case you're planning a trip

That's what I wondered, so thanks for confirming. I've hiked in Joshua Tree and Tahoe so figured this was the case but good to get some confirmation. Thanks for the info. Scenic Point, Polebridge and Highline are all on my list - HAHA. I have to cull the list at some point. :O

    Glacier National Park

Thanks Amicus. LOVE that very first photo. And Sacred Dancing Cascade is earmarked, as are the Lake MacDonald area trails.
