    Kayak Car Roof Rack Question

I recently became aware that many kayak manufacturers recommend transport with the curved side of the hull bearing the weight rather than the portion that touches the water if that makes a difference.

If anyone wants to paddle or practice on Bow Lake in Strafford weekday eves 630ish pm me.

Im living in the area temporarily near the lake. The Independence Inn has some great local ipa's, including a cherrywood smoked brew. If the lot is full, there are backup options for a couple of paddlers and a way to get 4 boats to the lake at once.

Gear: use it or lose it

My MSR Miox failed, and the Steripens would never work in the cold for me. I thought the Miox was the ultimate solution because it would take on viruses....I went back to boiling water.

How do we keep folks from hiking Saturday?

I think its a great time for people to go car camping and try out the insulation in their gear. Any problems, just get back into the car... I remember doing this years back and finding out that -40 rating on my bag was a lie. And when I added layers it pinched the bag and things got worse. I...

    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

There are plenty of inexperienced hikers that make it out alive. Conversely there are many experienced hikers who meet unfortunate ends. So far all I see is people losing the trail interacting with inadequate equipment. As an aside, if the latest victim was being tracked, barring some kind of...

    Latest Preferred Snowshoes?

For 30 bucks they sent me 2 straps for 1225's. They included the hardware to replace the rivet. I did have to drill out 2 rivets but the special screws and washers were easy to install.

    EMS Sold -- Again

Yah theres the zero-dark-thirty department with night vision and laser optics but I think I recall seeing some high powered crossbows and threaded spear tips, no ninja stars tho. Honestly they carry some good quality gear along with the Coleman stuff.

Theres a Black Hawk that is just entering the area now. If you go to adsbexchange.com, select live tracking map, then hit the U button to just show military traffic, you can see its search pattern...(assuming there is adbs coverage) Edit: at 1504 the track disappeared and now it is back...it...

    EMS Sold -- Again

I remember getting my first set of Kneissl Cross Country Skis in Hartford Connecticut in the late 70's. I think they took their first hit from the Internet--I grew tired of being pushed to boots or sizes in stock rather than something that had to be ordered. Then their lifetime warranty...

    Leaf Blower Assisted Rescue

Turn Around Due to Leaves I tried to go up to the South Taconic Range from the New York Side, but way south of the trail to Alander Cabin, more the latitude of Mt Frissell. Think of going up Owlhead on ice in sneakers--- had to turn around
