    Licensed Amateur Radio Operators?

Great story. I could be wrong, but I heard the hiker used an Elecraft K-1 or KX-1 to call out. Would love to get one of those.

    Licensed Amateur Radio Operators?

Bob, that's great. Send a message to me prior to the next time you're hiking and want to make a contact (if I'm at home of course). Just made contact with a hiker who was on top of Camel's Hump in Vermont. Pretty long contact for 2m! Great range for that repeater since it's so high up...

    Licensed Amateur Radio Operators?

I was wondering if anyone else here is licensed and carries a 2m radio with them while hiking? If so, I can hit the repeater on top of Mt. Washington from my house. I honestly don't want to start a debate of cell phones/electronics/blah blah blah and their place in the wilderness. However...

How crowded is Baxter State Park around Oct 1st?

Past couple of years I've stayed there in September and October and ghave gotten campsites at Blackwoods without reservations. It's been my experience that there isn't as many tourists around, unless you see a gargantuan cruise ship or two parked off Bar Harbor. Even then, those folks...

Mt Washington Auto Road-Does it Count?

It's not allowed?! That's lame. Is that just on the auto-road or the trails also? Not allowed on the auto-road, I guess I can see... but hope it's still allowed on the trails.

    Headlamp Input

Another vote for the Zenix IQ. Comfortable, throws out very good light, and is relatively light. Interesting what Seaver said, as I haven't really put it to the test in that aspect. It has served me well during a couple of long night runs in warmer weather though, staying firmly and...

    Have you ever rescued anyone?

I saved a guy from drowning once when I was in high school. Got him on my surfboard and paddled him in. I guess he got caught in a riptide and then cramped up. Everyone at school the next day thought the guy was ungrateful because he didn't offer me any money and that I was an idiot for not...

    strange critter id help

They're around, just elusive. Sablatt, Rols and I saw a pine marten while hiking up to Isolation a few years ago. Here's a not so clear picture of it as it scurried up a tree. Mystery creature = northern flying squirrel?
