    Winter Trail Running and Negligence

Which would be what your defense lawyer thinks the juries' understanding of a "reasonable person" understanding is. The likelihood of getting a jury made up of climbers, winter trail runners and base jumpers is very low.

Some bonus Snow but lining up for a potentially dangerous three day weekend

Nice but at times gusty morning on Willard on Sunday the 18th. First time in winter I had to look where to cross the brook at the beginning.. Well packed so traction only needed, about 40% were in snowshoes. Passed by a couple of climbers who came up the ice and some blind hikers and their...

Solo hiking a badge of honor?

That's how I feel about alligators in NYC and Walgreen's in FL.

Solo hiking a badge of honor?

I can usually still see the car when I start talking to myself....

Solo hiking a badge of honor?

It's possible if the weather is so bad no sane person would go....

AMC is paying for promotion on Google

As in online? If they are in neighboring states outdoor publications, like the ADK Club's magazine or ADK Life they are paying for them. I suspect they are in Yankee Magazine and other regional publications. (We have a CT magazine, imagine Boston has one.)

Long Sleeve Shirts: Heat, Bugs, Humidity?

Hiking I'm sweating too much at this time of year for anything but shorts, short sleeves and Deet and Sun screen if needed. I do most of my paddling though in a lightweight long sleeve Columbia shirt.

Petition to change the name of Mt Washington

Having been a Moderator when the site AlpineZone was started way back when bulletin boards were the only thing, it's a thankless job.

Petition to change the name of Mt Washington

We live in a country where you can petition anything and in Denali's case... I agree this has little chance of happening and seems to be a waste of money too.

Looks like the anti logging crusade is coming to the Whites (again).

I often see small, (from the summits) areas of past logging and if done where most people can't see it from the road, I don't really have an issue with logging done sustainably, providing they clean the waste up or chip it which I believe they do now. I do hope they get a fair value for the...

    Trouble on the Ridge (again).

Almost every resort burned when they were out of control. 1907 Lincoln: https://www.scenicnh.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Lincoln_NH_May_1907_Fire.jpg?x97214 This article show 85,000 burned and entire communities were theatened, it doesn't mention if any property in actuality was...

    Trouble on the Ridge (again).

When I was there on 5/21, it was manned. I don't think they have any authority like they do at BSP to keep you from going though.

    Trouble on the Ridge (again).

We, people, not just the AMC, VFTT, thru-hikers, etc.,turned the wilderness not far from our homes into a playground. historically, when we didn't play in it, industry used it to excess with little regard. Many who lived there over 100 years ago lost businesses and homes in the fires that...

Looks like another one of those Ammo Rescues

Saw that also and I'm heading there this weekend. Thinking I may leave a note saying the car is open. I agree about taking FB with a grain of salt, but in a group of over 77,000 people, if one percent of the members take it as gospel, that's 770 people who may get in over their heads.

Looks like another one of those Ammo Rescues

I see over on the 4K FB page at least one person who was surprised they found snow up high in the trees. No snow on bare summits and no snow at the trailhead, it must be snow free, right? Lots of people bringing traction. All the FB post show smiling selfies (who takes one with them looking...

    Q: Upper Works Trailhead?

I agree, the bugs in NH are not as bad as the ADK and ME. If you do head to ADK, the 6/12 Monday start sounds good and your post here answers some of my questions I had on the private message I replied to a week late. The Boreas River site mentioned isn't too far from the trailhead. I've been...

New Hampshire snow in the 3000'-4000' range?

Was on Bear in CT last Saturday and likely will be in MA somewhere in the next couple of days. Will be in the Whites after Mothers' Day, Lonesome Lake one night, unknown at the moment where after that.
