Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

This is really helpful thanks. Looks worth it to me, it will most likely come down to how we are doing on time.

Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

Regarding an out and back slackpack to the Wildcats, is it worth the extra mileage to go beyond peak A? In other words, is the view from the platform at wildcat D worth the extra 3.8 rt miles from wildcat A?

Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

Great advice guys, I'll worry about nailing down the route for now and worry about what footwear to bring before leaving.

Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

Thanks guys, that option 3 sounds really appealing. I was thinking it would be anticlimactic to just go the 3 miles back to the car on Sunday. So what you recommend sounds really good. I'll look into the mileage and topo. Also - I know none of you can predict the future, but is it safe to...

Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

Thanks guys, glad I asked. I never stayed overnight in any of the huts (only stopped by on a day hike), so I failed to consider that they might have seasonal schedules. Thanks for the link to the yearly schedule. I'll plan accordingly. We can't do a car spotting because we are driving the 6...

Suggestions - Overnighter in the Whites w/ hut stay

Hi, the weekend of Nov 8th I'm looking to do an overnight loop with an hut stay. Preferably with most of the hiking on Sat and less on Sun. I was looking at Mt. Adams with an overnight at the Madison Hut. Any other suggestions? I'm hiking with a buddy who is a seasoned AT thru-hiker. I'm...

Nice video. The views at the top more than made up for the lack of flow on the falls. Nice job.

Dealing with / avoiding altitude sickness (Utah)

Hi guys, original poster here. So I got back from my 48 hour cross country hiking trip to Utah and I'm happy to report that while the thin air kicked my ass a little, my body did not act adversely to the altitude. I definitely felt more winded than usual and I had to slow my pace down a bit...

My Weekend Cross Country Adventure to Utah

Hi guys. This past weekend I took a weekend trip to Utah from New Jersey for a 2 day hiking trip. It was an awesome adventure. I wrote up this trip report with pics if anyone is interested. Thanks! http://backcountrypost.com/forum/threads/my-cross-country-weekend-adventure-in-utah.3667/ John

    Franconia Ridge/Arethusa Falls Video

Thanks Billy! I'm new to editing so I appreciate the encouragement. I was second-guessing the pacing (thought some parts were too fast) so it's very helpful to hear the aspects you felt worked. John

    Opinions on Franconia day hikes

Thanks again to everyone for their advice. On our first day, we did the Lafayette Loop on Franconia Ridge and had beautiful clear skies. The next day my wife needed a bit of a break because she didn't bring her trekking poles on the Lafayette loop and had some bruising on her toes (from the...

    Opinions on Franconia day hikes

Thanks again Driver8. Bob, yes he's an experienced hiking dog. He's got calloused paw pads from years of hiking, his regular food gets cut with puppy food (extra calories) on hiking days and the night before, gets enough water, etc. He is most likely only doing Moosilauke and Eisenhower and...

    Opinions on Franconia day hikes

Thanks for the input Driver8. For some reason I thought that taking the Carriage Rd to Snapper on the descent from Moosilauke would bring me to the South Peak summit. I didn't know there was a separate out and back spur trail for it. Good to know I'll have to get on the AT for a few feet to...
